George Hurrell’s Hollywood

George Hurrell was one of the most prominent photographers working during the Golden Age of Hollywood. He was lauded as the “Rembrandt of Hollywood,” beautifully capturing portraits of subjects including Norma Shearer, Bette Davis, Carole Lombard, Joan Crawford, and more. While he frequently photographed actresses–including famous photos of a then-unknown Jane Russell which helped her connect with film fans–he also photographed leading men, including Clark Gable and Gary Cooper.

In George Hurrell’s Hollywood: Glamour Portraits 1925-1992, author and photographer Mark A. Viera shares a wealth of photographs and research in order to present a fine sequel to his earlier Hurrell release. The book documents Hurrell’s life and career, allowing the images to also speak for themselves as nothing short of remarkable.

This book is a must for fans of classic Hollywood and photography, as it thoroughly examines Hurrell in addition to offering some of the most gorgeous and evocative photographs of classic Hollywood stars.
