Eddie Muller’s Noir Bar

What a time to be a Noirista! Fans of TCM’s Czar of Noir, Eddie Muller, will be so delighted with the release of Eddie Muller’s Noir Bar: Cocktails Inspired by the World of Film Noir. TCM’s Noir Alley has steadfast viewers on Saturday nights and Sunday mornings, and the noir community is an extremely involved and engaging bunch. Overall, TCM’s community of viewers is fabulous and the Noir Alley crew is also extremely participatory on social media during Noir Alley broadcasts. Noir fans post under the #TCMParty hash tag during these broadcasts, commenting on the film and on Muller’s intro and outro. Likewise, there is usually a cocktail (or three) that appears in a film noir, and many fans step up to the tumbler to create some of their versions of the nifty drinks mentioned in these pessimistic classics.

Eddie Muller’s Noir Bar: Cocktails Inspired by the World of Film Noir is an exciting addition to the TCM library, published by Running Press–and it is a gem. It is filled with stunning photography and poster art of noir stars and films, with each film inspiring a cocktail. In addition to Muller’s prose about the films and stars at hand, this is an exceptional recipe book for film-inspired cocktails to enjoy and pair with a noir film. The recipes are easy to follow and also include basic information about which mixology supplies you’ll need to create these libations.

I’m so excited to try my hand at creating one of these cocktails to sip on during a broadcast of Noir Alley. Specifically, I have my eyes on the “Black Manhattan” to be paired with Side Street (1949). As noir fans know, “it’s a bitter little world” but it’s certainly made sweeter with this book filled with more film-related reading to indulge in.

Eddie Muller’s Noir Bar: Cocktails Inspired by the World of Film Noir is available via Running Press starting on May 23, 2023.
