Shari Lewis was a beloved ventriloquist and entertainer who charmed many audiences throughout her career–myself included. I loved watching her show as a child and adored her interactions with the various puppet characters she brought to the screen. She and Lamb Chop, in particular, were an iconic pairing in children’s television, entertaining audiences with song and dance.
Before her work with Lamb Chop, Lewis was making strides in the entertainment industry. She ran her own television production company and was in control of her many talents, which included dancing, drawing, conducting, ventriloquism, and more.
Shari Lewis & Lamb Chop: The Team That Changed Children’s Television by Nat Segaloff and Mallory Lewis is a very special biography that chronicles Lewis’s life, career, and legacy. Moreover daughter, Mallory, co-authored this book and offers a personal glimpse into Lewis’s life. The biography also contains a foreword by David Copperfield.
This book is a delightful and inviting read, combining biographical information with anecdotes and memories from Mallory. It is also beautifully illustrated and well-researched, offering fans of Lewis’s work a thorough, multifaceted portrait of this memorable talent.
Shari Lewis & Lamb Chop: The Team That Changed Children’s Television is available for purchase through the University Press of Kentucky.
