Hollywood Pride

One of the TCM library’s latest additions is Hollywood Pride: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Representation and Perseverance in Film by Alonso Duralde. This book offers an interesting look at not only on-screen depictions of the LGBTQ+ community in films but also discussions of Hollywood talents who identified as part of the community.

Duralde’s book discusses the challenges and successes faced by the LGBTQ+ community within the context of classic to contemporary Hollywood through examining the stories of individuals tied to the film industry in varied ways. The evolution of LGBTQ+ storytelling is also examined through exploring their narratives, censored and not, depicted in a broad range of films.

While some of these individuals are identified as part of the LGBTQ+ community, though their family members have stated otherwise (see Tyrone Power‘s entry in the book, for example), the book succeeds as an interesting read with many achievements to celebrate.

Hollywood Pride: A Celebration of LGBTQ+ Representation and Perseverance in Film is available for purchase via Running Press.
