Ziegfeld and His Follies

Florenz Ziegfeld, Jr., was a master showman and impresario of the twentieth century. His Follies highlighted some of the most celebrated talents of the day, including the likes of Eddie Cantor, Fanny Brice, Marilyn Miller, W.C. Fields, Will Rogers, and more.

In Ziegfeld and His Follies, authors Cynthia and Sara Brideson offer a fascinating look at Ziegfeld’s many achievements, consulting his unpublished letters to his wife, Billie Burke, and daughter, Patricia. While examining Ziegfeld’s role as a father, son, friend, and lover, they also explore his business acumen and professional work as an employer.

The book is supplemented with many photographs, featuring images of some of Ziegfeld’s stars who would go on to have successful film careers. Fans of Ziegfeld and early American stage productions will certainly enjoy this biography.

Ziegfeld and His Follies is available for purchase via the University Press of Kentucky.
