On March 28, 2025, I attended the 2nd-day-of-Issue event for the honorary Betty White stamp held in the late comedienne’s hometown of Oak Park, Illinois, at the Oak Park Post Office. The event was held the day after the First-day-of-Issue event in Los Angeles, California, at the Los Angeles Zoo and Botanical Gardens.

Art director Greg Breeding designed the stamp with original art by Dale Stephanos. White is featured smiling in a purple and white polka dot top and wearing paw print earrings–a direct tribute to her animal welfare activism.

Post Office Operations Manager of the Illinois 1 District Greg Harris was the Master of Ceremony and began the ceremony with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Next, attendees were treated to a stunning rendition of the National Anthem performed by Kalind Haynes, Letter Carrier for the Loop Station in Chicago, Illinois.
Afterward, there was a series of remarks about White’s career, legacy, and ties to her hometown. Attendees heard speeches from Oak Park Postmaster Kenya Thomas, Village President for the Village of Oak Park Vicki Scaman, Executive Director of the Oak Park River Forest Museum Frank Lipo, and the District Manager for the Illinois 1 District USPS Jeff Drake.

Following the speeches, the stamp was unveiled and a short party followed. Stamps were available for purchase and cancelation.
