Bringing the period of Golden Age Hollywood to life can be challenging, particularly within novelizations. Lindsay Lynch’s Do Tell succeeds in this regard through the creation of the fictitious character Edie O’Dare, character actress and Holywood gossip columnist.
Though many characters are manufactured, the settings are interesting to readers who are fans of classic films. Lynch’s novel discusses the process of shooting films–offering a particularly strong focus on descriptions of on-location filming as well as Hollywood premieres through the eyes of her protagonist. As a bonus, film historians will certainly appreciate the mention and descriptions of the Hollywood Canteen–a unique collaboration among film industry professionals to entertain and host servicemen.
Lynch’s novel offers a fun, lighthearted look at Hollywood’s Golden Age and is an enjoyable read.
