Edith Head was one of the most celebrated costume designers working during the Golden Age of Hollywood. She made many beautiful, iconic gowns for leading ladies of the day and also designed a variety of men’s suits during her lengthy career.
Jay Jorgensen’s Edith Head: The Fifty-Year Career of Hollywood’s Greatest Costume Designer is a fitting tribute to Head, discussing her personal and professional life and showcasing her many gorgeous products. As is the case for Head’s own work, this book shines in its photography. Though Jorgensen discusses the stories behind these costumes, films, and designs, the pictures are most certainly worth a thousand words. It is also a delight to see some of these costumes photographed in color when several appeared in black-and-white films.
This book is not to be missed–particularly if one is a fan of movie costuming, costume design, and costume collection.
