Bobby Darin

Bobby Darin was one of the greatest artists of his day, experiencing a rags-to-riches life that was not without its challenges. While his public image was upbeat and enthusiastic, delivering musical performances with charisma and vivacity, his life behind the scenes was far different.

David Evanier’s Bobby Darin: Roman Candle showcases the life, career, and legacy of Darin as an accomplished musician and lauded star. However, Darin also struggled with many issues including chronic illness that propelled his drive to achieve. Along the way, he also had a highly publicized marriage to actress Sandra Dee, which also presented its share of noteworthy highs and exceptional lows. Moreover, Darin’s family also held its own secret, which added all the more pain and complexity to his life.

Evanier’s book is a fascinating and forthright depiction of Darin’s story, in both the personal and professional sense. I highly recommend this book to fans of Darin’s work.
