Dr. Annette Bochenek loves to take Hometowns to Hollywood on the road–in person or virtually–to offer fun and engaging presentations about Hollywood’s Golden Age. Her presentations range from focusing on various subjects related to Golden Age Hollywood, in addition to presentations that profile individual performers.

The Poles in Hollywood: From Pola Negri to Richard Boleslawski

The films of Hollywood’s Golden Age offered many depictions and talents from Poland. Join Film Historian Dr. Annette Bochenek as she explores a selection of the studio system’s on- and off-screen talents of Polish descent as well as classic films that portray Polish characters. The program will include a multimedia presentation consisting of photos, video clips, and captivating stories. Taking full advantage of sunny California’s climate, classic Hollywood films frequently featured beach sequences and sun-drenched stars. Join Film Historian Dr. Annette Bochenek as she explores classic Hollywood stars and their ties to beach films, the influence of beach movies on fashion, and memorable beach movie moments. A young baseball pitcher in the bush leagues is discovered by a big-league manager and given his chance in the major leagues. But will he be up to the challenge? Join Film Historian Dr. Annette Bochenek for an introduction to The Busher (1919), starring Charles Ray, Colleen Moore, and John Gilbert. Dr. Annette Bochenek of Chicago, Illinois, is an avid scholar of Hollywood’s Golden Age. She manages the Hometowns to Hollywood blog, in which she writes about her trips exploring the legacies and hometowns of Golden Age stars. Annette also hosts the “Hometowns to Hollywood” film series throughout the Chicago area. She has been featured on Turner Classic Movies and is the president of TCM Backlot’s Chicago chapter. In addition to writing for TCM Backlot, she also writes for Classic Movie Hub, Silent Film Quarterly, Nostalgia Digest, and Chicago Art Deco Society Magazine.
