Imagining the Method

Method acting has been a form of actors’ education for quite some time, with many of its students being notable figures in classic Hollywood. From stage to screen, method acting has been an innovative approach to better understanding and portraying characters through experience and connection.

Justin Owen Rawlins’ Imagining the Method: Reception, Identity, and American Screen Performance discusses the origins, growth, and influence of method acting upon the performing arts. His book is well-researched, offering a thorough analysis of the history of method acting as well as past and present students of the method. From Brando to Monroe, there is much to be examined and learned from this creative approach to generating stronger character portrayals.

Imagining the Method: Reception, Identity, and American Screen Performance is available for purchase via the University of Texas Press.
