C’mon, Get Happy

Summer Stock (1950) is among many beloved classic Hollywood musicals. Starring Judy Garland and Gene Kelly, this film is especially interesting in terms of Garland’s career and the end of her time at MGM.

David Fantle and Tom Johnson’s C’mon, Get Happy: The Making of Summer Stock discusses MGM, the story, talent, production, musical numbers, and aftermath of the film’s release, including marketing efforts, revues, revenues, and revivals. The book is very well-researched and is sure to be enjoyed by fans of the MGM musical, particularly fans of Kelly and Garland’s collaborations.

C’mon, Get Happy: The Making of Summer Stock is available for purchase via the University Press of Mississippi.
